Let The Ground Hold You

January 12, 2018

One of my favorite yoga positions is Shavasana. Corpse pose is actually one of the hardest and under appreciated positions in yoga. It is the closest to meditation. Conscious but relaxed. Still, but your mind may be reeling with thoughts or your body is fighting to move.

What I love about Shavasana is literally being supported ....And giving over the responsibility of “holding up” every bone in the body, thought and emotion, our lives, hopes and dreams, to the firm solid ground.

Talk about handing it over. Right? Unraveling the body and mind to be literally supported by the earth.

For so many of us, it is so hard to accept and receive support.

In our minds, we’ve scripted whole stories about it. We dig our heels in, push to do it ourselves, our way, perhaps by a certain time or a certain level of acceptance. That’s a lot of pressure to put on ones self.

What if we relaxed into it instead? What if we stopped struggling for a second and just handed over the weight and responsibility —and connected to the bedrock of the earth?

To Feel her. To feel ourselves.

Next time you are in Shavasana see if you can feel gravity gently holding you down and the sold firm earth gently holding you up. And then just let go... What happens?
